New Bowlers

Open days are held for prospective new members to try the game and find out more - see Events calendar for dates.

The following provides information about becoming a member of The St Albans Bowling Club.

Tell me about The St Albans Bowling Club and the Game of Bowls

Like all sports the game of bowls is essentially simple, but to play consistently well demands determination, concentration and practice.

Members of The St Albans Bowling Club enjoy a range of Bowling Activities to suit all abilities.

Bowls is not only a sport, you can have a supportive and active social life as a member where you will have the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and lead a healthier lifestyle.

As a new bowler what can I expect?

You can come along for a ‘Taster Session’.   The Club will be able to provide you with all the equipment you need to try the sport of Bowls for the first time.  If you enjoy the experience then you can progress on.

New bowlers are introduced to the game by attending 4 coaching sessions which introduce the basic techniques of bowling and ensure they have the confidence to start playing and fully participate in Club activities.

Social Bowling (Roll-ups) is for Club members who wish to play bowls with other Club members in a fun, and friendly game.  They can also be useful as a way to practice for yourself and learn about the laws and etiquette of the game.

Inter Club Friendly Bowling matches take place regularly and are open to ALL members.  (Just a small step up from Roll-ups).  They are usually mixed games open to members and afterwards the friendly games are followed by social hospitality at weekends, or tea and biscuits during weekday matches.

There is a full program of member ‘in house’ club competitions which are enjoyed by all and the Club has a host of competitions that allow for bowlers of ALL abilities to take part.

For the more competitive there is the opportunity to enter both District and County and National competitions.
