Results

19th September 2022

Linda, Sally and Brenda finished 2nd of 22 teams, just one point behind winners Harpenden, in the Ladies' District Benevolent Triples Gala held last Wednesday at Harperbury.  Brenda continued her fine form when the club finals took place last Friday to Sunday, winning five titles across mixed and ladies' competitions. However,  the club's ladies' champion was Maralyn, who beat Clare.  The Men's champion was Phil who beat Mike.

12th September 2022

Linda  and Maralyn  were unable to cap their fine run in this year's District Aussie Pairs with a win in the final.  At the Potters Bar club last Sunday they were beaten 2-0 in sets by a very strong pair from Hatfield.

5th  September  2022

Linda and Maralyn continued their fine run in the District Aussie Pairs, reaching the final after a semi final win against Kings Langley last Wednesday, taking the tie break 2-0. They will contest the final against a pair from Hatfield.  That semi final win was at the Townsend club, where four days earlier the club won a tight mixed triples friendly 87-79, despite losing three of the five rinks. 

29th August 2022

The Club held a well attended and enjoyable Gala day on Monday in which many new members took part.  Apart from general fundraising, activity on the green was for the club's Remembrance Cup.  On Sunday we lost a 3 mixed triples game away to  Luton West End in a close encounter as the planes flew over every few minutes. On Wednesday, Linda and Maralyn progressed to the semi final of the District Aussie Pairs, beating a team from North Mymms 2-0 in the tie break.  Also on Wednesday a  mixed triples friendly at home to Kings Langley was won by St Albans.

22nd August 2022

Linda and Maralyn won convincingly at Townsend last Wednesday, to advance to the quarter finals of the District Aussie Pairs competition. They won 8-3 in the first 7 ends, and were leading 7-1 after 6 ends of the second set of 7 when the weather closed in.  Sunday's mixed friendly at Beech Hill was a tight affair, eventually lost by St Albans 82-78 despite winning two of the four rinks.  Members enjoyed the Millennium Cup competition on Saturday. The winning pair were Alan Turner and Chris Palmer.

15th August 2022

The Members' Gala, scheduled for last Saturday, was postponed until 29 August on account of the extreme weather conditions. Sunday's friendly fixture was cancelled for the same reason. One fixture that was fulfilled the Wednesday before saw Linda and Maralyn beat a pair from Batchwood, by 2-0 in the tie break, in the preliminary round of the District Ladies Aussie pairs.

8th August 2022

We had mixed fortunes last weekend. Saturday's away fixture at Herts BC of Watford was won convincingly 111-62 with a win on all of the five rinks.  However,  we won only three of the five rinks in Sunday's home fixture with Kitcheners and  the match was lost 68-73.

On Thursday in the District Ladies Triples  Linda, Maralyn and skip Brenda advanced to the quarter finals winning 20-9 away to a team from Potters Bar.  The weekend’s friendly fixtures were both won. At home to Hatfield on Saturday 76-63 and away to Hemel  Hempstead on Sunday, even more convincingly, 84-43.

25th July 2022

The Club had mixed results last week. Saturday's triples home match against Cheshunt was won convincingly 74-50.  All four rinks went with the home team.  On the previous Wednesday a five rink triples  match at home to Townsend was lost 66-81 with three losses, one draw and one win of 17-11.

18th July 2022

The hot weather restricted the Club to a single match last Saturday at home to North Mymms, which itself was shortened to 16 ends.  We won two of the five rinks but fell short of a winning total, losing 66-73.

The ladies lost against a strong team from Bushey on Thursday in the area semi-final of the Top Club . There was an  exciting finish in the singles when at 20 :20 St  Albans sat on the Jack; Bushey’s next bowl ended in the ditch after pushing the Jack to the end of the green. then  St Albans bowled Jack high to win the singles by one shot leaving the overall score 1-3 against.

11th July 2022

John Bartlett played John Farmer of Mill End in the quarter final round of the County unbadged singles on a neutral green, unfortunately losing a close match 21-17.

The club won its mixed triples friendly last Saturday away to Kitcheners of Berkhamsted, winning two ends and drawing the other to record a win by 54-39.

4th July 2022

The ladies took on Potters Bar at home last Saturday in the National Top Club. With the team 2-1 up but behind on shot difference, the pairs stole the shot from their opposition on the last end to draw their game and secure an overall win of 2.5 - 1.5. The ladies  will now play Bushey in the Herts (south /west) division semi final.

27th June 2022

John Bartlett recorded two wins in singles matches, beating M Neller of Bishops Stortford by a single shot, 21-20, in the last 16 of the County unbadged singles last Saturday, followed on Monday by a win 21-4 in the second round of the District Officers' singles against I Connaughton from Batchwood.   Linda, Maralyn and skip Brenda beat a very strong team from Hatfield 17-11 in the preliminary round of the Ladies District Triples competition.  

The club played a three rink mixed triples friendly on Saturday at home to Tring. Although tHe visitors won two of the three rinks, we won overall by 47 shots to 42.

20th June 2022

The Club recorded four wins during the past week. In Thursday's men's county league match at Batchwood, each team won one rink, but the overall shot count was 40-31 to St Albans. Earlier that day, we beat Harperbury 63-45 at home in a mixed triples friendly.  Two more mixed triples friendlies at the weekend saw us win at home to Hitchin 69-50, and at Harpenden the next day by 76-69.

13th June 2022

On Friday the Ladies triumphed in the preliminary round of the Top Club (S and W Herts Division) winning by 3-1 against North Mymms in a very close match.  However, the Club suffered three defeats in mixed triples friendly matches over the week.  In Thursday's fixture at Townsend, we lost 68-54.  Saturday's home fixture against Potters Bar was a closer affair, but was still lost by three shots, 92-95.  At Northaw & Cuffley the loss  was 89-73.

We lost Saturday's home mixed triples fixture to Hertford Castle by a single shot 63-64.  Sunday's home match, notionally a mixed fixture but with opponents Luton Town playing a wholly male team, was less close, and we lost 41-87.

The Club prevailed in last Thursday's mixed triples friendly at home to Radlett by a single shot, 85-84, Another mixed triples friendly, played at home in cooler weather on Saturday afternoon against Luton West End, was won more convincingly 70-49.

John Bartlett and Steve Wilson achieved a major win in the county men’s pairs last Wednesday, beating Harpenden's Nick and Tom Muir 13-11 after a close and skilful encounter. This followed a win by the St Albans pair 16-13 on the previous Thursday against their Shire Park opponents. Steve’s fine form continued with wins, 21-19 against T Tarby of Harpenden in the district singles, and 21-19 against Aidan O'Conor in a Lonsdale Trophy 1st round match.

St Albans' Ladies beat Batchwood 40-35 in a triples match last Tuesday played over three rinks.  Last Saturday's mixed triples friendly away to Harperbury was lost 84-98.

The Club’s first Open Day of the season was held last Saturday.  The beautiful weather encouraged a better than expected number of people who were warmly welcomed by the organisers and all the helpers.  25 attendees expressed an interest in membership.

Last week the Ladies played Kings Langley at home in the District Rinks League in a very tight match. They won 16-15 on one rink and lost 15-20 on the other, after gaining the lead in the first half,  resulting in 10pts to St Albans and 20pts to the opposition.  A better result was achieved on Sunday when a mixed triples team, playing a  friendly at home to Welwyn & District, won on all 4 rinks giving an overall victory of 87-35.

On Saturday, we won a mixed triples match at home to Baldock by the tightest of margins, 47-46.  On Sunday, another well-contested mixed friendly at home to Potten End, was lost 52-62.    In the St. Albans & District singles competition John Bartlett lost 21-19, after an epic battle lasting 28 ends,  to Patrick Jones from the Welwyn & District club.

The club has played three mixed triples friendly matches during the last week. On Thursday, the away match at Linslade was lost 57-77. On Saturday St Albans, playing away to North Mymms, won three of the five rinks, but lost overall 70-80.  Sunday's home fixture against Shire Park was much tighter, but resulted in a narrow defeat 83-85

On Sunday 24 April we played Luton Town for the first time in seven years. Unfortunately, we lost this away mixed triples fixture 49-85.
